This week a group of reporters and photographers were allowed up to the crown of the Statue of Liberty for the first time since it was closed almost eight years ago for security reasons on the day of the New York attacks.

For two years commencing on July 4th anyone lucky enough to win a lottery ticket will be allowed up the 168 tiny and progressively narrowing steps to the crown, where they will have five minutes at most to admire the same scene that Lady Liberty enjoyed before it went up in smoke that fateful morning in September.
