Japan Airlines 747 Sucks In Baggage Container

Hundreds of passengers were left stranded yesterday after a Japan Airlines Boeing 747 from Los Angeles to Japan was grounded after a metal baggage container was sucked into its engine.
The jumbo was preparing to depart a terminal gate at LA International when the incident occurred.

Airport officials said the vacuum created by the air intake of the engine was so strong that it pulled the empty container off a baggage cart that was either parked or driven too close to the aircraft.
There were no injuries among the 245 passengers and 18 crew members onboard the flight.
Stranded passengers were taken back to the terminal where they made arrangements to take another Japan Airlines flight to Tokyo this afternoon, or booked on flights with other carriers said a spokesperson for Japan Airlines.
