Boracay Island – A Tropical Paradise In The Philippines

There are various routes that lead to Boracay Island. The simplest way to get there is to take a plane from Manila or Cebu going to Kalibo or Caticlan. Several airlines operate in these areas including Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific.
A ship from Manila that docks a few minutes away from Caticlan is also an option. A land expedition for the adventurous, buses from Manila, Iloilo, Cebu, and Negros host passengers going to Caticlan.
Once at Boracay, many adventures await you. Banana-boat riding is very popular ranging from three to ten people per ride in various banana-boat sizes.
Mountain biking & hiking is healthy and will take you to remote places with amazing scenery and you can rent mountain bikes almost everywhere. The office of the Motorbike associations also rent motorbikes ideal for exploring the southern and northern parts of the island but you have to remember that motorbiking along the beaches is prohibited.
Boracay is not only for the adventurer but also for the beach lover. You can sunbathe and stroll along the beaches pure white sand.
Sailing ‘Paraws’ are for rent along the white beach can be rented with or without a sailor, depending on your sailing skills. Prices range around 7 dollars an hour. Hobie-cats are the ideal sailing outfit for those who like speeding in the wind.
You can go snorkeling and beach hopping while enjoying your fresh buko juice. Small boats can be rented for trips around the island for couples and large groups. These trips always include snorkeling stopovers at different beach coves.
It might not be possible to circle the island during the monsoons but the west and east coasts of the island provide enough areas best for snorkeling and scenic views for a couple of hours.
For the fitness junkie, a state-of-the-art gym is open for workout after jogging along the beach. Not only that, pampering and meditation can be achieved in various spa locations.
For those who don’t have laptops with them, they can visit internet cafes with air-conditioning or inside a palm leaf hut.
There’s also a spot for the sporty. Windsurfing and Kiteboarding lessons with equipment are present in the island. Bulabug beach is the main beach for windsurfers. The best time for this is between December and February when the Northeast monsoon blows. An annual Boracay International Fun Board Cup is held. It is a leg of the Asian Windsurfing Tour.
Beach Volleyball and football are set up during day time. People gather spontaneously to participate in these challenging games. Bi-annual championship events are held where tourist teams play against another with the main participants to be from USA, the Philippines, and Hong Kong.
Tennis, golf, and horse-back riding are three other activities one can indulge one’s self in if the fancy takes you.
Don’t forget to bring souvenirs with you. There are numerous shops around the island from branded beach outfits to native paraphernalia; Boracay is a ‘city’ in its own right within an island.
