20 Extravagant And Unusual Requests By Hotel Guests

The Great Hotels of the World, a group of five star hotels and resorts around the globe, compiled a list of the most extravagant and unusual guest requests they’ve received over the past few years.
Here’s 20 of the most extravagant and strangest requests from the list.

Stop the birds singing
This particularly fussy guest asked hotel staff to guarantee that no birds would be singing in the morning, just so he could have a lie-in.

Fly me to Venice!
One of the Capital’s usual guests was on holiday with his other half in Switzerland.
He decided to treat her to a romantic getaway from the already romantic getaway they were on.
So he called up The Capital’s concierge to arrange a helicopter to pick them up in Switzerland and take them to Venice for the day.

At what angle does the sun set?
This very demanding guest requested a room where the sun sets at an angle of precisely 45 degrees to the right of the room window.

Design me a private golf course… on a glacier
One particularly demanding guest asked staff at Hotel Ranga in Iceland to organise a private helicopter tour to a nearby glacier where an 18-hole golf course had been created just for him.
After three holes, the guest got bored and demanded to be flown back to the hotel where he proceeded to drink a 2000 Euro bottle of wine.

The sea is too loud!
This very demanding guest found the sound of the sea so irritating he actually asked hotel staff if they could stop it.
We’re still not sure exactly what he expected them to do.

1,2,3….BUNGEEEE!
A lot of people like to visit the top floor of a luxury hotel to take in a breath of fresh air and enjoy the fantastic views.
This guest did just that. But unlike most people, this daredevil then flung himself off the top of the building attached to nothing but an elastic band!

Ice bath anyone?
This guest was so desperate to cool down that he requested the bath be filled to the brim with ice.

Build me a bonfire!
This guest asked if the hotel could arrange to have an open fire barbecue on the terrace, much like the fires that can only be made on the beach.
Unfortunately, fire regulations didn’t permit it and he had to make do with a normal barbecue.

I need to hire a belly dancer!
This guest wanted to arrange a special last-minute birthday party at the hotel restaurant and requested a belly-dancer to provide the night’s entertainment.

Can I go scuba diving?
This budding scuba diver asked hotel staff to organise a scuba diving trip to the shipwreck of Barun Guac, at a depth of 40 metres.
However the guest didn’t want oxygen bottles and didn’t even know how to swim. So, the hotel organised something much safer: a glass bottom boat trip.

An executive room please.. for the dog!
These two guests booked two executive deluxe rooms at the Swiss Diamond Hotel Olivella.
They arrived to check in with their dog. Whilst they were being escorted to their room, they were asked who would be staying in the second room, to which they replied “the second room is for our beautiful dog.”

Where’s the beach?
This guest obviously didn’t do much research on the area before calling the hotel to make a reservation.
“I’d like to book a sea view room”, he asked reservation staff.
Little did he know that The Czech Republic doesn’t actually have a coastline and that the nearest beach is around 500 km away.

The sun is annoying me!
This hard-to-please guest asked if he could change rooms as the afternoon sun was annoying him.
He also asked the hotel to forbid non-guests from entering the hotel or walk on the beach.

Can we take the bed home with us?
This couple thought the bed at Shanghai Mansion was the best they had ever slept in.
They thought the four-poster bed was so beautiful and so comfortable that they asked the hotel if they could buy the bed, the mattress and the silk fabric pillows and have them shipped to Europe.

Build me a garden!
This guest was staying at the hotel for a week. He loved gardens so much he had his gardener set up a full landscape garden on the terrace of his suite.

I want my favourite meal, but it’s not on your menu!
This unexpected request came from a guest who asked for a dish that was not offered in the hotel’s restaurants and room service and which the chef was not familiar with.
The hotel asked the guest for a simple recipe for the dish and the chef prepared it especially for the guest.

Can I leave the door open?
This guest who suffered from severe claustrophobia requested that the room door be left open during the night with security guarding the entrance.

Can you stop the rain please?
On a miserable rainy day (yes these do occasionally happen in the Algarve) one guest actually asked if the hotel staff could find them some sun somewhere.

My bed is too high!
This VIP guest thought his bed at Hotel Puente Romano was too high so requested that the feet be cut off in order to make it a more comfortable height.
Unfortunately for him, hotel staff didn’t agree.

I’ve left something in my room!
This VIP guest from the Middle East checked-out and realised en-route to the airport that he had left his medication in his room.
Not wanting to lose his medication, he requested that the hotel fly his medicine to London on the next available flight at his expense.
The following day, the hotel’s executive chef, who was British, flew to London to deliver the medicine. Good service or what?
