YouTube attacked by porn

YouTube does its best to be a kid-friendly site. Even mild videos of models are rated as ‘over eighteen only’ and you need an account that’s registered with the correct age to be able to access the content.
In fact, it’s nearly as wound up about porn and adult content as it is about the copyright content and arguments have plagued the site in the last few years. Despite its best measures however, YouTube succumbed to a ‘porn attack’ this week.
A large group of people who call themselves ‘anonymous’ and congregate on the community site 4chan were responsible for the attack which saw hundreds of users uploading thousands of porn videos to the site under names of popular movies and pop stars such as Hannah Montana in order to lure unwitting users to the clips, many of which contained hardcore sexual footage.
There’s actually been so much content added that even today YouTube are still cleaning up their act and warn users that some content and the thumbnail images that are automatically generated for the content may be up for a little while yet.
4chan have all but owned up to the incident in a recent report by the BBC, citing the fact that YouTube keeps deleting videos that use copyrighted music from the site, something that many users of the sharing giant are angry about.
YouTube doesn’t appear to be taking any action besides deleting all of the accounts involved in the attack. Whether or you not you use the site or like watching porn, the organisers of this move have to be given some credit for their originality and it beats all those just bitching about YouTube’s various decisions in their profiles and comment boxes!
