BT Broadband Accused Of Bandwidth Throttling

Britain’s biggest broadband supplier BT Broadband has been accused of limiting download speeds on its cheapest package without warning users.
BT Broadband allegedly cuts the speed users can watch video services like the BBC iPlayer and YouTube at peak times.
A customer who has signed on to an up to 8 megabit per second (MBPS) package can have speed cut to below 1Mbps.
A BT spokesman said the firm managed bandwidth “in order to optimise the experience for all customers”.
The BBC said it was concerned the throttling of download speeds was affecting the viewing experience for some users.
Customers who opt for BT’s Option 1 broadband deal will find that the speed at which they can watch streaming video is throttled back to under 1Mbps between 1700 and midnight.

I’m with BT option and absolutely disgusted. I was not aware that they throttled option (but not option 2 or 3). When I signed up the only difference between the options was the capped amount (10, 20 and unlimited for option 1 2 and 3 respectivly). IMHO they have mislead me and treating option 1 customers appalingly).
Option 1 can download less than the other two options (which is fair) but limiting speed is very unfair IMHO.
Can’t wait until my 12 months is up!!!!
I was with BT Broadband since 2001 and was very reluctant to switch. Last year I took the plunge and went with 02. The service is night and day in all areas.
In terms of speed I’ve went from 4.5 to 17, at worst 11. Customer services and tech help are UK based and finally price. From £27 to £15. Even non o2 customers get a good deal and I’m on the top package so I can guess the lower versions are way cheaper.
