Maria Sharapova Returns With A Win

Former world number one Maria Sharapova made a successful return to action in the first round of the Warsaw Open on Monday.
The Russian, now ranked 126th in the world after nine months on the sidelines following shoulder surgery, was made to battle before overcoming Tathiana Garbin of Italy 6-1 6-7 6-3.
The 22-year-old looked on course for a straight-forward victory when leading 5-3 in the second set, but a couple of jittery service games let in the Italian who took advantage to level the match.
Sharapova, having squandered four match points, then went a break down in the decider before winning five games on the spin to clinch victory in two hours and 35 minutes.
