UCL Round-Up: Barcelona Lose, Arsenal Draw
The first round of match day three games in the Champions League saw Barcelona and Liverpool both lose at home, while Arsenal dropped points on their travels as AZ Alkmaar grabbed a last minute leveller.
Here’s a round up of all eight games played last night.
Group E
Debrecen 3 – Fiorentina 4

Fiorentina win a seven-goal thriller in Hungary as they beat Debrecen 4-3. Adrian Mutu was the Viola’s star man as his brace helped the Italians to a win that takes them three points clear of Liverpool into second.
Liverpool 1 – Lyon 2

Liverpool’s season slumped to a new low as they threw away the lead to lose 2-1 against Lyon at Anfield after a last-gasp goal from Cesar Delgado.
Group F
Barcelona 1 – Rubin Kazan 2

Rubin Kazan shocked reigning champions Barcelona at Camp Nou, as Alexander Ryazantsev’s searing drive beat Victor Valdes in just the second minute to put the Russian champions on course for victory.
Inter Milan 2 – Dynamo Kiev 2

Group F is still wide open as Inter Milan were held to a 2-2 home draw by Dynamo Kiev. Twice Jose Mourinho’s side had to come from behind as Kiev struck first through Taras Mykhalyk before Dejan Stankovic exposed some sloppy defending to level.
Group G
Rangers 1 – Unirea Urziceni 4

Rangers let an early lead slip as Unirea Urziceni thumped the Scottish champions 4-1 at a stunned Ibrox.
There were three own goals on the night – as well as a missed Gers penalty – as Walter Smith’s side lost to sit rooted to the bottom of UEFA Champions League Group G.
Stuttgart 1 – Sevilla 3

Sevilla maintained their 100 per cent record in the group stages as they comfortably beat Stuttgart 3-1 in Germany.
The Spaniards are firmly in charge in Group G as they swept to victory at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion.
Group H
AZ Alkmaar 1 – Arsenal 1

An injury-time strike from David Mendes da Silva handed Eredivisie champions AZ Alkmaar a late 1-1 draw versus Arsenal at DSB Stadion
Olympiakos 2 – Standard Liege 1

Olympiakos made home advantage count against Standard Liege as they claimed a hard fought 2-1 victory in Group H’s other game. Liege took the lead against the run of play when Igor De Camargo finished smartly, before Kostas Mitroglou’s header on the stroke of half-brought Olympiakos level.
With time running out substitute Ieroklis Stoltidis delighted a partisan home crowd with an 84th minute winner.
