After yesterdays transfer of Kaka to Real Madrid from AC Milan for €65m, I thought I’d take a look at the worlds highest earning footballers.

Before yesterdays transfer Kaka and Inter Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic were the joint highest earners raking in a whopping € 9,000,000 a year.

Now that the Brazilian forward has penned a new deal he moves ahead of his former Serie A counterpart with an extra million Euros in his annual pay packet.

With Ibrahimovic on the lookout for a new club and transfer speculation high on a number of others listed, such as Samuel Eto’o and Cristiano Ronaldo, this list may expire pretty quickly as they negotiate even bigger wage deals.

Wages are quoted in Euros as most of the players are signed with teams in mainland Europe.

Updated 12 June: After yesterdays transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid it emerged today that his annual salary is in the region of €11,100,000. That moves him up from position eight to number one.
