In a statement on the clubs website it said, “At Cristiano’s request United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player”.

The club added that talks will be concluded by June 30.

This record breaking deal follows Real Madrid signing Brazilian playmaker Kaka on Monday in a £56m transfer.

It’s been muted the Spanish giants have a transfer kitty of some £300m and they seem determined to spend every penny of it.
