Inverness suffered relegation from the SPL following a 1-0 defeat at home to Falkirk.

John Hughes’ Bairns started the day at the foot of the table but just two points adrift of Inverness and St Mirren.

They needed to win to stay up and managed to go ahead through Michael Higdon 22 minutes from time.

The goal put the onus back on Inverness, who had already had a man sent off, but the Highlanders could not respond and must now prepare for life in the second tier of Scottish football next term.

St Mirren remained level with Inverness on 37 points after slipping to a 1-0 loss against Hamilton, but their superior goal difference spared them from the drop.
