Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has apologised for his behaviour in the wake of Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League semi-final defeat to Barcelona.

He said in a statement on Chelsea’s official website: “I was very upset at what happened during the game, but having seen the pictures on TV I accept that I overreacted”.

The Ivory Coast international confronted match referee Tom Henning Ovrebo following the Blues’ away-goals loss to Barca at Stamford Bridge.

It’s also being reported that Drogba has jeopardised his Chelsea career after incensing owner Roman Abramovich with his antics on Wednesday night.

Drogba was angered that the Norwegian official failed to award four perceived penalties in a match which saw Andres Iniesta strike in injury time to cancel out Michael Essien’s opener.

Insiders claim the Russian billionaire expressed a loss of patience with Drogba as he watched the extraordinary events unfold from his box at Stamford Bridge.

The club went close to selling Drogba last season after his red card in the Champions League final defeat by Manchester United.

Uefa is expected to investigate the incident, specifically Drogba’s outburst, and the forward acknowledges that he overreacted.
