Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez’s claims that his side can ‘beat anyone’ in Europe came back to haunt as Stevan Jovetic inspired Fiorentina to a 2-0 victory in Florence.

Rubin Kazan 1 – Inter Milan 1

Ten man Inter Milan picked up a precious point in Russia following a 1-1 draw against Rubin Kazan.

Barcelona 2 – Dynamo Kiev 0

Barcelona secured their first win of the 2009-10 compaign with a 2-0 victory over Dynamo Kiev.

Group G

Rangers 1 – Sevilla 4

Sevilla produced a breathtaking second-half performance to stun Rangers 4-1 in the driving rain at Ibrox with the Glasgow club being turned down for a valid penalty claim late in the first half.

Unirea Urziceni 1 – Stuttgart 1

Romanian champions Unirea Urziceni came from behind against Stuttgart to earn their first point in the Champions League.

Group H

AZ Alkmaar 1 – Standard Liege 1

AZ Alkmaar were punished for lacking concentration as Moussa Traore grabbed a last-gasp equaliser for Standard Liege. The result leaves the two sides, who both lost their opening fixtures, fighting for third and fourth spot.

Arsenal 2 – Olympiakos 0

Late goals from Robin van Persie and Andrey Arshavin handed Arsenal a deserved victory over Olympiakos at Emirates Stadium.
