In Pictures: Bamboo Scaffolding

The first time I seen a building site using bamboo scaffolding was in the movie Rush Hour 2 – like most things that I see in the movies I just thought, yeah sure, it’s Hollywood!!!
It was until I took a trip to South East Asia and seen bamboo scaffolding first hand being used to construct a brand new skyscraper that I actually believed it was used for real.
Of course the first thing that popped into my head was – that can’t be safe. They use steel poles on all the construction sites I’ve ever seen but in Asia they do so many things differently to the West.
When treated bamboo forms a very hard wood making it strong, extremely lightweight, and very flexible as you’ll see from this gallery of various building sites from across Asia.
