Official UK Download Chart

The Official Downloads Chart celebrated it’s fifth birthday on Sunday with a one off chart counting down the biggest selling tracks in it’s five year history.

With sales of 779,000 units Lady Gaga topped the special chart with ‘Poker Face’, one of two songs from her in the top three.

Kings Of Leon and Leona Lewis joined the New York singer by also grabbing two spots apiece in the best sellers list.

Although if you were to believe MTV & NMEtwo outfits you’d expect to know about music – you’d be reading a top ten with tracks that don’t even exist. When did Leona Lewis release a track called ‘Hallelujah’?

Oh, that’s right, she didn’t. They also managed to list Snow Patrol as having two entries in the top ten too. Snow Patrol song, just not them singing it. Tut, tut.

Here’s the actual top ten most downloaded songs in the UK since September 2004.

1. Lady Gaga – ‘Poker Face’
2. Kings Of Leon – ‘Sex On Fire’
3. Lady Gaga – ‘Just Dance’
4. Kings Of Leon – ‘Use Somebody’
5. La Roux – ‘In For The Kill’
6. Leon Lewis – ‘Run’
7. Alexandra Burke – ‘Hallelujah’
8. Leona Lewis – ‘Bleeding Love’
9. Snow Patrol – ‘Chasing Cars’
10. Nickelback – ‘Rockstar’

Digital sales now make up 98 percent of the singles market with the top five songs all released within the past 12 months, indicating the importance of download sales to the music industry.
