Cheryl Tops UK Singles Chart

Cheryl Cole’s first release as a solo artist, Fight For This Love, has gone straight to the top of the UK singles chart.

The song is the fastest-selling single of the year so far, with more than 290,000 sales.

Cole said: “I’m just getting over the fact I have recorded my solo record and now it’s number one.

“I can’t take this all in. It’s hard for me to put into words how I feel. I have this permanent smile on my face.”

Fight For This Love was premiered on BBC Radio One and was written by Andre Merritt, Steve Kipner and Wayne Wilkins.

They had previously penned material for R&B stars such as Chris Brown, Christina Aguilera and Rihanna.
