Roald Dahl’s ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ was the first book the director Wes Anderson owned, so he treats it with reverence.

He spent 10 years wondering how best to turn it into a film. He made a pilgrimage to Dahl’s Great Missenden home, seeking out and befriending Dahl’s widow, Liccy, who gave her blessing to his project.

He holed up in Dahl’s study, folding his tall, slim frame into Dahl’s chair, and wrote a script that became the stop-motion film that will be released here on October 23.

Everything had to be specially manufactured for the film mainly in England including 535 puppets, 4,000 props, and 285 hand-tailored costumes.
