Top Five Summer Activities For Students

Hiking Students

For those lucky enough to have successfully passed this year at University, you will be no doubt thinking of how to spend that precious little time you have earned away from the stresses of your classes.

If you are one of these fortunate individuals, then this article should help you on your way to making the most of your time during these bright months.

This could be anything as straight forward as earning a little bit of cash to make up that minus number bank account that this credit crunched year has produced.

It does not take a genius to work out what Ninety Nine point Nine percent of you students will do after nine stressful months of intensive study.

Lazy Student Guide

Well, number Five on the list is simple: They go back home!

The reason behind this is to get your guardian, parent or loved one to do things for you.

Poor Mum and Dad will take pity on your poor soul for working so hard, so far from home, and will undertake, if you are lucky, your ironing, washing and dishes.

In fact, the only item you will be inclined to clean whilst at home is yourself.

Yes, your one concern in life for the next few weeks is personnel hygiene.

Apart from that, you are free from the stresses of trying to run your own domestic life.

Even for those that do not return home, the fringe benefits will surface.

When you have no studies, you equally have less or no stress.

Therefore most students like to kick back a bit and carry out their day to day activities away from home at a much slower pace than they have been doing over the past two Semesters.

After all, with no essays due at the end of the week, no one can blame you for trying to add some leisure to the often time consuming (and unarguably dull) task of cooking.

I mean, with all the spare time in the world, who is stopping you experimenting in the Kitchen, and adding a little more ‘spice’ to life.

However, after a few weeks of being a complete lay about, who ever you are living with will start to get a little of sick of you.

As they increasingly make that fact bolder, you will also notice you are becoming lazy, and also even a smidge bored.

If I were you, I would take the free time the summer has invested in you and turn it into some hard earned cash; yes, you could even get a Job…

Not much like a student I here you say?

Well, think again.

Getting a Job is Number Four on this list.

Students will do anything for cash, and why blame them?

That money would be received with gratitude by the average student.

With the average Student Loan covering only the bare essentials, after working for a few months, just think how much money will have been saved for the forthcoming academic year.

No matter whether you are from the heavily populated London, or from the smallest of little Sea Side towns, there will no doubt be some work somewhere for people whom want short term employment, or even just one off handy jobs.

Those of you who really shine in the workplace may be offered a part time, but much more permanent contract, which can be kept through University.

It is advised by many Universities that no more than Fifteen hours a week is to undertaken by a student in a workplace.

That’s fair enough, because if you think about it carefully, at roughly £5.50 an hour, even four hours a week gets you that extra Twenty Two pounds.

The best attitude for getting a short term job is to be up for anything.

Don’t turn your nose up at even the most trivial opportunity that is thrown your way.

The chance might not come around again, and a paid job of any kind is better than no income at all.

With the future combination of your loan, which accumulates definitely for most students to under £50 a week, and the money saved from a summer of hard graft, it will make for a brighter year ahead.

You will have the disposable income to invest some cash, and consequently liven up those nights, that everyone has that are set aside from your studies.

clubbing

The main reason you are on “Holiday” is to enjoy yourself. In itself, this means you need to party faster, harder and later than ever before.

But, also, just generally have a great time. This is point Number Three.

Unless my previous advice was taken, you will more than likely (Whether you like to admit it or not), have nothing to get out of bed for in the mornings.

So with lots of energy stored from lots of lounging about, you could get up late and go out and just enjoy what is left of your day.

Generally enjoying yourself however does not have to be as Hedonistic and as drink fueled as it first appears.

Those of you that attend a University not in your hometown, it will be no shock to you that your family and friends will have dearly missed you.

Paying both of these sets of people a visit will feel very rewarding and will lighten your mood, as you will have put a smile back on their faces.

Without a doubt you will have consumed lots of fatty ready meals in the last year, so just maybe, in between partying and some catching up, take the time to get back in shape and maybe sign up to a gym if you feel you would benefit.

Also, going out with mates who you have not had a night out with in a long time can be an amazing revelation.

These are the people that have the oldest memories of you, and therefore a good night out for old time’s sakes is a treasure, to be repeated more than once, by all.

So you have adventured around every club in town, and now you want something to stimulate those brain cells before jumping straight back into your increasingly difficult degree?

Work Experience

Then take a look at Number Two on the list.

Take the free time you have left with your summer and try and gain some essential work experience for the career you wish to escalate into after you have completed your degree.

It is extremely easy to work hard during term time when the work load is scheduled, and you simply have to do it, but it is often difficult to do so when it is work you are not scheduled to do.

In the Three months of spare time, most students, sadly, will work as few hours as possible and just waste away time.

Students know they can get away with doing nothing and therefore often lack motivation, especially in the months when the weather is hot.

A web designer, however, could set up his own site and maybe get a couple of the Journalism students studying at the same University to the produce the content for it.

Therefore all of the students involved in this production are practising the skills they will have learned.

It is obviously not as simple for people who are doing courses such as Applied Science, or other degrees that are training you for jobs that are only given to those with precise and exact knowledge of very intricate subjects with limited employability scope, to get into a work Place.

If you are a person in this category are struggling to get into work experience, you could always make sure that you have widely revised what you covered in the past academic year.

If you know what topics you will be studying or what texts books need to be read next year, the books could be a brilliant investment now.

Getting a step ahead is always a brilliant year plan.

For those who are studying a course that you are extremely dedicated too, often the most prestigious Universities will offer abroad work placement help.

For those who do not have this opportunity: please by no means feel left out. In the summer, you could always take the time to ‘move’ around a bit.

Amsterdam

Number one on our list is a delight often only enjoyed to its full extent by post graduates.

Regardless, you ask any student what they would like to do most this summer if they had the money, and they will most likely say that they would like to Travel!

Depending on the funds available, this can vary greatly.

Many students will travel around the beautiful cities of Europe, others the hotspots in the UK, but many will take an all out mission around the selected sights they want to see of the world.

Let’s take a look at some of the places that Students like to visit when they travel around Europe.

Armed with a light weight sleeping bag and a handful of traveller’s cheques, many students will board the Euro Star and head over the English Channel, and then weave their way to Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is not doubt a very beautiful and gorgeously constructed city, with the canals being a wonderful reason why people visit the city.

With a humid weather front and luscious architecture, you would be mad not to add Amsterdam to your list of must see’s.
From the Netherlands to Belgium, another popular destination is the secret city of Bruges.

Of course, Belgium chocolate is on sale on every street corner for those with a Sweet Tooth, but most notable with Belgium in general is the friendliness of the locals.

Last of all is Paris.

Every student years to keep up to date with fashion and a trip out spending those Euros in the designer capitol of the world will bring a smile right to your face.

Also, lets not forget, an opportunity to have a lovely romantic meal in a delicate and loving authentic French restaurant.

With Bistros and exciting French Cuisine littering the sidewalks, this is a must experience if you are on Holiday with a lover.

So there you have it.

The top five things students like to undertake with their precious time away from University.

Of course, it would be hard to do all of these things in one summer, so it is best to pick the ones that your bank balance allows and cherish the three months of guilt free pluralism.
