Photo Special: Everyday Life In North Korea

Published by djmick on March 2nd, 2010

North Korea

Photographs from North Korea are restricted and hard to come by – the few pictures that do come out of the last Stalinist state in the world, lead by Kim Jong Il, are either state-produced or state-approved.

Still, one can get some idea of everyday life in North Korea from the 68 pictures featured in the gallery below which are a mixture of photos taken from the borders of neighboring South Korea and China, whilst others were provided by North Korea itself, and several by freelance photographers.

When will idiots realize that Communism does not work. Look at history, no country that has tried communism made it work. If you do not learn from history then you are going to repeat it. Look at North Korea and South Korea. Two counties with the same people and the same resources and one is poor and communist and one is rich and capitalist

i would really love to look at these pictures, but the gallery is just so frustrating. theres a single page for every picture, and i have to scroll down each time. why not put all the pictures on one page. go with the times, please.

    Hey Dan

The #1 reason for putting each picture on its own page is to allow for the use of bigger images. I feel that something would be lost using a photo with a width of 465 rather than one of double that size.

I will look into offering both options in future.

Looks like you ripped these photos off another site without giving any due credit..

  • djmick on March 31st, 2010 at 10:38 am

The photos came from multiple sources… not any one site or photographer as Mister implies.

They apparently skipped researching glass making before reaching the modern era.

These pictures appeared in two separate Boston.com’s “The Big Picture” entries on Sep 17 08 and Apr 19 09 (I’d link but I’m not sure how to do that here).

The pics there have explanatory captions to help give a bit more context for anyone who’s curious. Happily, they’ve also got the sources/photographers’ names so djmick can credit them here as well.

Really stunning pics though, even a second time!

Whoops, typo – the second Big Picture entry was Apr 24 2009. Sorry!

Thanks for the dates Neophyte, it made tracking the url’s easier.

The 2008 set were broken down and found on several forums, now their original location has been found I’m more than happy to share boston.com as the sources.
